In Memory of Bear

Our beloved Bear passed away of cancer on September 10, 2020 at only eight years young. Our hearts are broken but of course, memories live on.

Please enjoy this short video of Bear’s Life!

In addition to the fun life he lived, Bear was also a registered therapy dog. We visited assisted living centers, schools and hospitals bringing smiles to many faces. I never took a picture of Bear in his therapy garb; bandana, his therapy picture and name tag. I thought I had all the time in the world for that.

Then, covid hit and visiting was banned. Then in July, Bear was diagnosed with cancer.

I began to ask myself, “Why didn’t I listen to my own concern when I saw he was not his usual self that spring and summer?” However, it was an unusually hot spring and summer and I attributed his tiredness and not wanting to play to the heat.

In the end, I accepted this as God’s plan. Because, within six weeks we adopted Lucy, who needed a good home, just like Bear did when we adopted him.

A little apprehensive on the ride home.

But living like a queen in five weeks.

To me there’s nothing more enjoyable than kids and dogs in the house! Since I no longer have kids at home, Lucy now fits the bill.

In the end, if you are interested in getting your dog certified as a therapy dog Alliance of Therapy Dogs is a great organization to do so.

ATD provides testing, certification, registration, support, and insurance for members who volunteer with dogs to visit hospitals, special needs centers, schools, nursing homes, and other facilities. They’re a network of caring volunteers who are willing to share their special canines to bring smiles and joy to people, young and old alike.
